Don't Poison Your Dog with

Tainted Treats!

Your dog is not a car, so why would you feed it a chemical used to make anti-freeze? The truth is that as pet parents we have been duped by some corporations that prefer profits over the health of your companion animal.

Take a close look at the treat box to ensure you are not giving your dog things like “animal digest.”  Animal Digest is defined by AAFCO as “material which results from chemical and or enzymatic hydrolysis of ‘clean’ and un-decomposed animal tissue. The animal tissues used shall be exclusive of hair, horns, teeth, hooves and feathers, except in such trace amounts as might occur unavoidably..."  Note: they fail to define what “trace amounts” are.

Study your treat label and watch out for BHA, BHT, Ethoxyquin and propelene glycol.  BHA and BHT are known carcinogens. Ethoxyquin is a pesticide that is banned from human food. Propylene glycol is a preservative used in anti-freeze, cosmetics and moisturizers (check your make up and moisturizer, too!).

Meat by-products and chicken by-products are nothing more than dry, ground carcasses that are deemed unfit for human consumption. By-product meal is slaughtered left over “parts” that include: necks, undeveloped eggs and intestines-basically everything left over after the meat is taken out for human consumption.

The moral of the story is NO  by-products!  Look for natural treats.  Most pet treats are from China.  In today’s world, it is safer to buy treats sourced and manufactured in the USA.  Your dog is probably your best friend, so endeavor to find natural, holistic dog treats. Read the ingredients label and learn to “Shop Healthy”.
